A Bittersweet Election

Unfortunately Tom Tancredo did not prevail last night.

Despite having very limited resources and taking on the two establishment parties Tancredo was able to go from nowhere to mounting a very serious challenge to John Hickenlooper. This was of course only possible due to the hard work of Tanc and his supporters who worked tirelessly, not for money or positions of power, but for their heartfelt desire to see a better Colorado and America.

Tancredo and his supporters did a great job and although the day was lost, the fight will continue and we can be assured the Tanc will be back in the near future.

On the bright side, although Tancredo went down plenty of other like minded individuals were able to declare victory last night.

Some of these include:

Lou Barletta: Pennsylvania mayor who made headlines with his tough anti-illegal immigration policies. He was able to oust a pro-amnesty incumbent Congressman and will now bring his fight to D.C.

Paul Gosar and David Schweikert: Two new Arizona Congressmen who support Arizona's recent law against illegal immigration.

John Boozman and Rand Paul: Two new anti-amnesty, pro-liberty Senators from Arkansas and Kentucky respectively. Both won by huge margins.

Nathan Deal: Georgia's new Republican governor who has promised to implement Arizona-style laws defeated left-wing scalawag Barnes. Other new governors of worthy note: Robert Bentley of Alabama, Rick Scott of Florida, and Nikki Haley of South Carolina.

These are just some of the victories from last night. Overall it was a positive election for those who favor defending our nation's borders and soverignty.

Sanctuary City to Sanctuary State? No Gracias.

The sudden ascendacy of Tom Tancredo has been a met by the political elite with a mixture of astonishment, frustration, and fear.

No doubt they blame his high poll numbers on "backwards" Coloradoans clinging to their guns and religion.

Accordingly, their mouthpieces in the establishment media have been churning out a number of articles bashing Tancredo attempting to scare voters. They tell us Tancredo would be a "disaster".

Let us for a second consider who the real disaster for Colorado would be: left-wing Mayor John Hickenlooper.

As Governor we can be assured he would grace the state with the same 'progressive' leadership he has shown as Mayor of Denver i.e. higher taxes, job loss.

We can also assume he will probably want to take his sanctuary city policy that allows illegal immigrants who commit crimes to stay and expand it to make Colorado a sanctuary state.

Does it really make sense to make Colorado's worst mayor into America's worst governor?

By now we know what Hickenlooper thinks of "backwards" Coloradoans. On election day Colorado should show Hickenlooper what it thinks of him and send him packing.

At the invitation of campus conservative groups such as the newly founded Youth for Western Civilization, former Congressman Tom Tancredo has been speaking at colleges and universities across the country.

As usual, Tancredo's message encouraging average Americans to stand up and take back our country has infuriated the left-wing.

Recently at the University of North Caroline, leftist thugs violently disrupted Tom Tancredo's speech.

At Providence College in Rhode Island the administration actually banned Tancredo.

Tancredo was not hindered in either case however. Tancredo will be returning to University of North Carolina for his speech and will hold his speech at the gates of Providence College.

Every time politically correct thought police try to shut down Tancredo they end up drawing more publicity to Tancredo which has only increased his level of support and ability to spread his message. Since beginning his speaking tour Tancredo has been interviewed in papers across the country and on national news.

Tancredo will not be silenced and his message is needed now more than ever.

The new GOP platform as accepted at the RNC convention is tougher on illegal immigration. But can we really trust McCain to stand behind any of it?

Tom Tancredo (Colo.), who mounted a bid for the Republican presidential nomination based almost entirely on his strong opposition to illegal immigration, said he was pleased that McCain had "modified his position." Most of the battles over immigration, Tancredo said, were won by his allies during deliberations of the GOP platform committee before the convention began.

The party platform includes language calling for tougher enforcement of laws, including a crackdown on employers who hire illegal immigrants, punishment for "sanctuary cities" and quick completion of a fence along the border with Mexico.

"We oppose amnesty," the platform says. "The rule of law suffers if government policies encourage or reward illegal activity. The American people's rejection of en masse legalizations is especially appropriate given the federal government's past failures to enforce the law."

Mexican law enforcement officials are walking into U.S. ports of entry in increasing numbers to seek political asylum, and the flow may soon become a flood as Mexico's battle with the drug cartels intensifies. Our first instinct is to welcome them, but there is more at stake than humanitarian sentiments.

The problem is that if our immigration laws are stretched to grant asylum to law enforcement personnel on the grounds that their own government cannot protect them, any Mexican threatened by these violent criminal gangs can claim the same right of asylum.

U.S. immigration law does not easily accommodate these law enforcement cases because they are fleeing threats from organized crime — the Mexican drug cartels — not political persecution by their government. If our laws are stretched to accept thousands of refugees from drug cartel violence, it will only exacerbate Mexico's problems.

We can sympathize with the Mexican police chief or prosecutor who lands on a cartel hit list because he will not play ball with them. The Mexican federal government seemingly cannot protect him and his family, so he flees to El Paso or Nogales and seeks asylum. The number of such asylum applications more than doubled in the first six months of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007, but very few have been approved. What will happen if we do not accept these asylum applications as a humanitarian gesture? What will happen if we do?...

The results from the last poll were clear, Ron Paul is probably the only candidate left who supports securing our borders.

We have two new polls up. One asks what will you do if amnesty supporter John McCain is the Republican nominee. The second asks which of the current leading candidates is worse on immigration. My opinion: Obama is the worst, Hillary and McCain are a toss up for 2nd place.

Vote Romney! Romney is the candidate most strongly opposed to illegal immigration. Huckabee and Paul can't defeat McCain.

Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul can't defeat McCain. Mitt Romney is the only Republican candidate for president that can defeat John McCain. He has a better record on illegal immigration than any other presidential candidate.

While Mike Huckabee was supporting in-state college tuition rates and college scholarships for illegal aliens, Mitt Romney was placing his veto on Massachusetts legislation that would have given in-state tuition at Massachusetts public colleges and universities to illegal aliens. While Mike Huckabee was supporting driver licenses for illegal aliens, Mitt Romney was opposing driver licenses for illegal aliens.

The most important reason to vote for Mitt Romney is his record on immigration.

¡Dios Mío! Fresh off of banning all discussion of Ron Paul, RedState.com is now adding a few new items to it's verboten list. RedState has issued a proclamation that commenters will henceforth no longer be permitted to use such puns as 'Jorge Bush', 'Juan McCain', or any other term RedState deems not politically correct.

Why? Well, Leon H Wolf from RedState explains that anyone who finds the terms clever or funny is in fact an evil racist.

Allow me to clue anyone who thinks these names are funny or clever in to something: racism isn't clever or funny. If you think you've really zinged someone by calling them by a Latino name, that's a pretty reliable (nearly infallible, in fact) indicator that you don't like Latino people.

Excuse me Leon, but allow me to clue you in that 'Juan McCain' is no more racist than RedState's favorite phrase 'John François Kerry'. 'Jorge Bush' is simply used as a pun by people sick of Bush putting Mexico's interests above that of America time and time again.

It's bad enough that we have to deal with this P.C. garbage from the left but now from the so-called 'right'? I guess it is simply one more sign of what Bushism has done to the conservative movement.

By the way, is it just me or are the 'conservatives' of RedState backing Obama now?

I'm not sure I've seen a more clarifying moment on amnesty in the last year than the back-to-back comments by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.) and Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) in Thursday night's debate in South Carolina.

No candidate has done more advertising against amnesty or more raising of the issue in debates than Romney, who has constantly tried to make sure that nobody forgets McCain's role as the architect of two years of giant amnesty bills in Congress.

But in the South Carolina debate, it was the moderator who first put McCain on the spot: "Senator McCain, the president's push for immigration reform failed mainly because of disagreements over your plan for dealing with the 12 million people now here illegally. You say you've learned your lesson, you'd secure the borders first. OK. Then how would you deal with the illegals?"

McCain has avoided answering that question for months, and almost succeeded again Thursday night. But when you closely parse what he said, you can see the McCain Amnesty Position:

1. McCain believes there was nothing wrong with the Comprehensive Amnesty legislation that American citizens defeated in the Senate last spring.

2. McCain suggests that the reason citizens opposed his Comprehensive Amnesty bill was not because they oppose legalizing illegal aliens but because they don't trust the government to secure our borders.

3. McCain promises to secure our borders and to aggressively deport about 2 million illegal aliens who have gotten into additional trouble with the law.

4. McCain will allow all the rest of the 12-20 million illegal aliens to remain permanently in the United States -- at least, he refuses to say that any of them have to go home.

Romney's and Thompson's description of what they would do with the illegal aliens provided a great contrast that surely helped most watchers of the debate see that McCain remains the Amnesty King that he has been for years.

McCAIN RE-DEFINES 'AMNESTY' SO HE CAN CONTINUE TO WORK FOR REWARDS FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS

After his leadership for amnesties knocked him out of his front-runner status last spring, it seems like many Americans forgot about his role. How else to explain that Sen. McCain (R-Ariz.) has suddenly become the front-runner in the national polls for the Republican nomination?

Recent private polling that I've seen suggests that large numbers of voters who strongly want illegal aliens to go home are not aware that Sen. McCain intends to allow most of the illegal aliens to remain permanently in this country.

In part, that may be because McCain in nationally televised debates and in campaign stops has said that he has never -- and will never -- support "amnesty." It is difficult for even the most cynical voters to believe that a candidate would tell a direct lie in such public settings.

But McCain justifies his claims by re-defining what "amnesty" means. According to McCain, it isn't amnesty to allow illegal aliens to live here permanently and keep American jobs, if you make them pay a fine and learn English.

As Romney pointed out on last Sunday's talk shows, that is a mighty big reward for law-breaking, whatever you call it. And as Thompson said Sunday night, rewarding illegal aliens with the right to stay will just entice millions more to come.

Gov. Mike Huckabee is proposing extending eligibility for state-funded college scholarships to illegal aliens who graduate from Arkansas high schools — an idea that several legislators predicted will go nowhere.

Huckabee said it’s "terribly unjust"for a child who arrived in Arkansas at a young age and graduated from high school to be denied state-funded college scholarships because of a "a status that he had no control over." "Do we want to change the future for these kids? Then let’s give them the opportunity. Let’s not say that our doors are open but our opportunities are closed,"Huckabee said Tuesday in his State of the State Address to the General Assembly.

The governor never used the words "illegal alien"in his speech but referred to high school graduates’ "status,"which confused some lawmakers. "We think he’s talking about illegal aliens, but we don’t know,"said Sen. Dave Bisbee, a Republican who said he opposed the idea.

Huckabee’s spokesman, Rex Nelson, confirmed that Huckabee, also a Republican, was referring to illegal aliens.

Bisbee said he thinks his hometown of Rogers has done a better job welcoming Hispanic immigrants to its community than others in Arkansas. "So I’m not coming from a position of prejudice,"Bisbee said. "But illegal is illegal... and even if the child came here when he was 3 years old or 4 years old, he’s still undocumented."

Rep. Denny Altes, R-Fort Smith, said citizens’ children should come first in college scholarship eligibility. "What kind of message are we sending to the people south of the border, you know?"Altes said. "Are we saying, ‘Yeah, come on,’ or are we saying, ‘No. There’s still a border there. ’"

Several states allow immigrant children, regardless of their legal status, to pay in-state college tuition, including California, Illinois, Oklahoma, New York, Texas, Utah, Washington and, most recently, Kansas. Proposed federal legislation would grant such students temporary legal status and arrange for their expedited citizenship if they maintain a good record.

In-state tuition rates are cheaper. In many states, including Arkansas, students who aren’t citizens and can’t prove their legal immigration status have to pay out-of-state tuition.

In his speech, Huckabee mentioned an unnamed high school graduate from El Dorado who was one of the top students in his class but was denied scholarships and grants because of his legal status.

On December 30, Sen. John McCain told George Stephanopoulos "The fact is that I've never supported amnesty". John McCain has spoken similar words on many other occasions, particularly during his false attacks upon Gov. Mitt Romney in recent presidential debates.

What is the truth about McCain's support for amnesty? The facts demonstrate that John McCain lied. According to a World Net Daily article, "in a May 28, 2003, press conference in Tucson, the Arizona senator said Congress should pass a guest-worker program that includes 'amnesty' for illegal workers in the U.S." Further, according to the World Net Daily article, McCain said "'I think we can set up a program where amnesty is extended to a certain number of people'". The World Net Daily article quotes McCain as saying "'[a]mnesty has to be an important part'" of the plan.

For many years, John McCain has worked with Ted Kennedy to pass legislation that rewards milions and millions of illegal aliens with legal status and a path to citizenship. Sen. Jim Demint of South Carolina commented on the 2007 McCain-supported Senate amnesty plan by saing "This rewards people who broke the law with permanent legal status, and puts them ahead of millions of law-abiding immigrants waiting to come to America. I don't care how you try to spin it, this is amnesty." In both 2006 and 2007, Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama correctly called the McCain- supported immigration plans amnesty. On April 5, 2006, Senator Sessions explained on the floor of the Senate why the McCain-supported immigration plan was amnesty.

While John McCain has been supporting amnesty since 2003, Mitt Romney has opposed driver licenses for illegal aliens, supported English immersion, vetoed in-state tutition for illegal aliens and supported the training of Massachusetts state troopers to enforce federal immigration laws. The record of Gov. Romney on illegal immigration is an important reason why Rep. Tom Tancredo endorsed Gov. Romney for president. There has been no greater opponent of rewarding illegal aliens during the last ten (10) years than Tom Tancredo.

Gov. Romney issued a press release in which he stated "Today's Senate agreement falls short of the actions needed to both solve our country's illegal immigration problem and also strengthen our legal immigration system. Border security and a reliable employment verification system must be our first priority."

Gov. Romney's unequivocal opposition to the 2007 Senate amnesty plan was likely one of the reasons his candidacy for president earned an endorsement from Rep. Tancredo.

One reason why Rep. Tancredo chose to endorse Gov. Romney for president is the strong record established by Mitt Romney on the subject of illegal immigration while he served as governor of Massachusetts.

In 2003, Gov. Romney opposed driver licenses for illegal aliens. Gov. Romney said "Those who are here illegally should not receive tacit support from our government that gives an indication of legitimacy". He further stated "'If they are here illegally, they should not get driver's licenses".

In 2004, Gov. Romney vetoed a plan that would have permitted illegal aliens to pay the same in-state tuition rate at Massachusetts public colleges and universities as Massachusetts citizens.

Mike Huckabee governed a conservative state, Arkansas, yet supported driver licenses for illegal aliens, as well as in-state tuition rates and college scholarships for illegal aliens. Mitt Romney, on the other hand, governed a liberal state, Massachusetts, but had the courage to stand up to pro-illegal alien interests in his state and oppose driver licenses and in-state tuition for illegal aliens.

The Romney record on illegal immigration is a solid one. That record certainly played a role in Rep. Tancredo's endorsement of Gov. Romney.

It is with my heart full of gratitude and a touch of sadness that I write today to tell you of my intention to end my campaign for the presidency.

As a loyal friend and supporter it is important to me that you understand why I am doing this, even though you may disagree.

For the past ten years I have dedicated my public life to the critical issue of illegal immigration. I believed then –as I do now—that massive uncontrolled illegal immigration threatens our survival as a nation. I could not stand by and let open border politicians and corporate lobbyists sell our country out to the highest bidder.

Then earlier this year when I feared that the issue would not be championed by any of the top candidates I threw my hat in the ring. It was the only way I could be certain that the candidates would be forced to take a stand.

Thanks to your incredible support look what we have accomplished:

Just last week Newsweek declared that “"Anti-immigrant zealot [that would be me] had already won. Now even Dems dance to his no mas salsa tune.” This month alone The Economist, the New Yorker, the Wall Street Journal and a score of other newspapers have written similar assessments, grudgingly crediting our campaign with forcing the issue of immigration to the center of the national stage and—more importantly—with forcing every presidential candidate to commit themselves to an immigration plan that calls for securing the borders, opposing amnesty and enforcing the law.

Of course, many of the candidates need to be pinned down on their understanding of the meaning of amnesty, but we have succeeded beyond my most optimistic expectations of a year ago. We even have Hillary jumping through hoops on the issue! So with so much success why drop out of the race now, you are probably asking. For one reason and one reason alone: I believe the cause demands I do so.

The presidential campaign has come down to less than a handful of viable candidates. Unfortunately several of them have abysmal records on immigration and can’t be trusted to do what is needed to preserve this country if they’re elected. My fear is that if I were to stay in this race my votes could be the factor in handing victory to a pro-amnesty politician. Friends, we have done too much, come too far and the stakes are too high to play that hand. And so I am ending my presidential campaign.

I know there are many more battles in our future and you can count on me to stay in this fight with you. We must continue to build the unquestioned momentum that is fueling our movement today. In the weeks ahead, I will write to you again to share with you my plans for the future, and for the immigration reform movement that is transforming American politics.

But for now, I just wish to again express to you my deepest thanks and appreciation for your partnership with me in this historic effort. I also want to wish you a very blessed and merry Christmas!

We have come so far together, and through our efforts we have made a stunning and, I believe, permanent impact on the debate over securing our borders and preserving our nation.

Congressman Tancredo has said he will not seek re-election to the House when his current term expires. He will instead focus on running for President.

"The issue now has a life of its own and it doesn't need one particular person to champion it," he said.

This may be one of the few times I have ever disagreed with Congressman Tancredo. The illegal immigration and border security issues may now have wider prominence, thanks to people like Congressman Tancredo, but the fight is far from over.

We need Congressmen like Tom Tancredo now more than ever!

We must of course continue to support Tancredo and get his message out to as many people as possible but I for one will urge him to continue his fight in the Congress as well.

By viewing Ron Paul's voting record on immigration-related issues, one can see that Ron Paul has supported the notorious Section 245(i) amnesty for illegal aliens on three occasions. In 1997, Ron Paul voted against killing Section 245(i) amnesty for hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens. In 2001, President George W. Bush supported an extension of the Section 245(i) amnesty. Ron Paul voted for a four-month extension of Section 245(i) amnesty for illegal aliens. Even after almost three thousand Americans were killed on September 11, 2001, Ron Paul continued his support for Section 245(i) amnesty for illegal aliens. In 2002, President George W. Bush supported the revival of Section 245(i) amnesty. In 2002, Ron Paul also supported its revival and voted for the revival of Section 245(i) amnesty in 2002.

Ron Paul has voted seven times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005) against allowing the U.S. military to aid in border control functions. What I am about to write about has to be the most disgusting episode yet of the U.S. government's and Bush administration's total disregard of American law, sovereignty, and dignity.

We all know that President Bush and previous administrations chose to do absolutely nothing to secure our border. As a result many foreign criminals have been able to come to this country unchecked and harm American citizens. One such case happened in 1993 when Jose Ernesto Medellin and other members of a gang brutally raped and strangled two teenage girls. Medellin was arrested, informed of his rights and after trial sentenced to exactly what he deserved, death.

Mexico was not happy about this. They were angry that Medellin and other murdering filth were not informed that they had a right to assistance from the Mexican embassy. They were so concerned in fact they went to the International Court of "Justice" in the Hague and sued the U.S. Predictably the "court" ruled against the U.S. and on the side of the rapist and murderer.

The U.S. thankfully does not abide by this foreign court and if President Bush had any backbone he would of course stand up for the American people and law and tell this foreign court exactly where to go. Instead, unbelievably, he wants to enforce this foreign court's and Mexico's will and save not just Medellin, but scores of other murderers and rapists. What a complete and utter disgrace. These are sick times we're living in and we need change fast.

The case of Jose Ernesto Medellin has become a confusing test of presidential power that the U.S. Supreme Court, which hears the case this week, ultimately will sort out.

The president wants to enforce a decision by the International Court of Justice that found the convictions of Medellin and 50 other Mexican-born prisoners violated their rights to legal help as outlined in the 1963 Vienna Convention.

That is the same court Bush has since said he plans to ignore if it makes similar decisions affecting state criminal laws.

Medellin was born in Mexico, but spent much of his childhood in the United States. He was 18 in June 1993, when he and other members of the Black and Whites gang in Houston encountered two teenage girls on a railroad trestle.

The girls were gang-raped and strangled. Their bodies were found four days later.

Medellin was arrested a few days later. He was told he had a right to remain silent and have a lawyer present, but the police did not tell him that he could request assistance from the Mexican consulate.

Medellin gave a written confession. He was convicted of murder in the course of a sexual assault, a capital offense in Texas. A judge sentenced him to death in October 1994....
